The 174th Dunster Show – Friday 19th August 2022

It is with great sadness that the Chairman Roger Richmond and the Board of Trustees of Dunster Show Society have made the difficult decision to cancel the Dunster Show 2021. We are sure you will understand that this decision has not been taken lightly. Even taking into account the latest statement from the Prime Minister, the current situation with Covid-19 and the uncertainty of restrictions on gatherings and of how long it will take to get back to some form of ‘normality’ has made it very difficult to run this year’s event.

Planning for a show continues throughout the year, involving considerable financial outlay, and the committee consider that the risk to the finances of the Charity is too great.

Whilst this news is disappointing for everyone, we are sure that you would agree that the health, safety and wellbeing of our, traders, competitors, members, sponsors, volunteers, visitors and local community is of paramount importance.

The continued support of the membership has been vital to the survival of the Dunster Show Society and the Committee express their gratitude to each and every one for their continued support during these unprecedented times allowing the Committee to provide bursaries to our existing students and donations to our charities.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday 19th August 2022 for an even better Dunster Show and hope and trust that the world is in a better place by then.

Please stay safe and our thoughts go out to everyone who is currently, and has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the continuing support of the membership and the kind donation from the NFU Mutual  the trustees decided last year even without a show to maintain the exisiting bursaries and to still give charitable donations but that these be halfed for 2020.

We have been delighted by the reponse from our charities and the kind comments as follows which we would like to share with you:

‘How wonderful that your members have continued to support us’, ‘unexpected surprise and a very generous one’

‘a very generous donation in these uncertain times”your continued support means a great deal to us all’, ‘we are humbled by the generosity of your donation’

Dunster Show is a traditional one day agricultural show situated on the edge of the Exmoor National Park a wonderful setting below Dunster Castle. The Show is a day great day out for all the family and whilst attracting great support from Exmoor and West Somerset also provides entertainment for those visiting the area.

The Show is a registered charity whose objectives are to improve, promote and encourage agriculture for the public benefit. Any surplus funds after covering costs are used in the local community to help organisations such as; Devon Air Ambulance, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, West Somerset Training Group, West Group YFC, Exmoor Hill Farming Network, FWAG and many others serving our rural area.

In order to support the younger generation that represent the future of farming and rural life in this part of the country we grant bursaries to local students in the area who are studying rural subjects. In 2018 we issued £12,000 in bursaries.

The society greatly appreciates the support from its members, stewards, judges, sponsors, advertisers, competitors and traders in making it such a special day.

With thanks to our sponsors and advertisers
